-Simplify your routine immediately. Strip it back to the basics: a gentle, non-foaming cleanser, a barrier-supportive moisturizer with ingredients like ceramides, niacinamide, or squalane, and SPF during the day. That's it.

-Stop exfoliating. Completely. At least for 2–4 weeks while your skin recovers. This includes chemical exfoliants like AHAs and BHAs, as well as retinol. We know it feels counterproductive, but adding actives to a damaged barrier is like putting hot sauce on a sunburn.

-Hydrate aggressively. Look for products with hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and ceramides. Applying a hydrating serum or essence under your moisturizer can help lock in extra moisture while your barrier repairs.

-Give it time. Full barrier repair can take anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks depending on how compromised your skin is. Be patient and resist the urge to add products back in too quickly.
